Celebrate Chile, Saturday 17 August 2024 at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre

Updated: Aug 3

Get ready for the "Fiesta Septembrina" featuring the incredible Katherine performing beloved songs by Violeta Parra and the vibrant world of Cueca—the National Chilean dance and music—with an interactive showcase of this genre from North to South Chile. Veronica from Los Amigos de la Cueca with Bernardo, Gladys and Jorge will dazzle us with her variety of four Cueca dances (Cuecas: campesina, chilota, central and brava)! We may also enjoy a cueca song created by the local project Canto a la Rueda.

Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes, as this is your chance to learn or refine your Cueca steps and moves before the September "Fiestas Patrias". Whether you are new to the dance or looking to perfect your technique, you'll have the opportunity to get moving and have fun!

The evening will also feature a the traditional Chilean pastel de choclo served with tasty greens and tomato salad and a sweet platter with the warming mote con huesillo, alfajores and more by chefs Yoko and Salvador from Los Rodriguez.

Katherine Aguirre, born into a musical family, pursued her passion by becoming a music professor of musical education at the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educacion in Santiago de Chile. Her deep connection with the music of Violeta Parra and her expertise in Cueca composition make her performance truly special.

Veronica Ramos is a well-respected professional Spanish teacher in Victoria and an award-winning Cueca dancer. Her skill and charisma make her a highly sought-after performer in the Cueca dance scene.

Don’t miss this celebration of Chilean culture—come for the music, stay for the dance, and enjoy the rich flavors of Chile!
